Te Ako Puriri Gets a Pet!

Te Ako Puriri welcomed some new additions to our Ako.

We had some children in our class visit Petstop and choose two Goldfish for our class. We chose a snail to help keep our fish tank clean.

We had to gradually add the fish to the tank so they could get used to the water temperature.

We have added lots of plants to our tank and need to change some of the tank water each week to keep it clean.

Come and see our fish tank!

Year 3 Camp

On the 6th of August our year 3's went on their long awaited camp a night at Kelly Tarltons! It was an action packed camp- featuring fish, sharks and giant sting rays...just to name a few. Below are some photos from our trip and a couple of recounts (the recounts are coming soon!). Hope you enjoy!

Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori'

The second week of term three was an exciting and special week for Te Ako Puriri, it was our turn to run  assembly again. It also happened to be 'Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori' - Māori Language Week. We set ourselves the challenge of using as many Māori Kupu (words) as possible.  We had some waiata (songs), showed some of our art and taught the school the Māori names for some creatures found in te moana (the ocean). Mrs Giblin and Miss Cleary thought we were super stars (again!).

Yesterday morning Eilleen came and shared with us about leadership in the school. There are lots of people in Te Ako Puriri that already show great leadership. Some of us are also involved in NPS Clubs!

Mothers Day!

Te Ako Puriri had a fabulous Friday creating cards and poems for our mums for Mother’s Day.

We ripped lots of piece of coloured paper and glued them into a heart with the message "I love you to pieces".

Look at our amazing cards!

We came up with a huge list of things that our mums do for us. Some of the things we thought of were:

  • Mum give me hugs
  • She makes me breakfast
  • She looks after me when I am sick
  • She helps me with my homework
  • She cleans my clothes

We read a Mother's Day poem and drew a picture of ourselves with our mum.

What a fantastic end to a lovely week!

WE WILL REMEMBER THEM

Wow! What a busy week it was. Last week we continued looking at ANZAC day and our brave soldiers who fought for our country and our freedom.

Here are just a couple of our thoughts about ANZAC Day.

“Anzac Day is about remembering when New Zealand and Australian men and women fought for our countries in the war.”

“Anzac Day is when people showed their love and fought for our freedom.”

Have you seen the giant poppy in the Auckland Domain? Last week we each got a metal disc and wrote a message to the soldiers. Our discs were then sent away and placed with the other 59,000 metal discs that made up the Giant Poppy Art in the Domain.

Here are some links to find out more about the giant poppy

On Friday we led the ANZAC service to remember all the soldiers and their courage. We held our service around the 'soldier's crosses' - the 30 crosses with the names of brave Kiwi soldiers and a nurse who fought and died for our country- it was important we stood near the crosses and remembered their sacrifice. We will remember them.

Mrs Giblin and Miss Cleary were so proud of us!

P.S Come in and see our wonderful poppy art sometime soon!
